A visioning workshop was held several years ago and the concept of the inclusion of a pavilion and playground in City parks was developed. The pavilion in McElroy Park was built near the playground and resembles the pavilions at the two CRA parks. The playground selected is a Main Street Village concept featuring a “City Hall,” “Police Station,” “Fire Station” and “School House” connected with pathways suitable for tricycles. The restrooms, parking and the general appearance of the park also got a “facelift.” The park reopened in the Spring of 2010.

McElroy Park Renovation was funded in part by the County of Volusia ECHO grant program, approved by its citizens on November 7, 2000 to construct Environmental, Cultural, Historical and Outdoor Recreation Projects for public use in the amount of $75,000 and also by a Florida Recreation Development Assistance Program grant in the amount of $76,000.
