It is with deep sadness that we learned that Former Civic Leader, Don Large, passed away this morning, July 21, 2020.
Don Large served the City of Daytona Beach Shores as Council Member, Vice Mayor and Mayor from 1977 to 2010. He served for 11 years as Mayor. He also served as the Chair of the Planning and Zoning Board and on various City committees over the years (City Hall, Community Center, 50th Anniversary committee to name a few). Don retired as an electrical engineer from the McDonald Douglas Company
He also served as the Director of the Volusia Council of Governments, was the former chair of the South Peninsula Zoning Commission and was the Director of the Volusia County Hotel-Motel Association.
He has worked tirelessly for the betterment of our community. He was a strong supporter of the arts and entertainment committees and the Racquet Tennis Club. He established the City of Daytona Beach Shores Museum. Through his efforts, funds were raised to fund the museum. He prepared videos of various founding members of the community, relating the history of the city.
Don and his wife Peggy have long made the City their home.
In lieu of flowers, the family said contributions may be made to the Don Large City Museum.
Arrangements are pending.
