The Daytona Beach Shores Department of Public Safety is pleased to announce a new “Sharps Disposal Program” available to Daytona Beach Shores residents, free of charge.
This service allows Daytona Beach Shores residents with an ID the option of dropping off their personal, used sharps at the department’s lobby during business hours, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The address is 3050 S. Atlantic Ave., Daytona Beach Shores.
When residents drop off a used sharps container, the department will give the resident a free 1-quart sharps container. “Sharps” refer to needles used to deliver various medications such as insulin used by diabetics. To be disposed of correctly, sharps should be in a puncture-proof container and disposed with other biohazard wastes – material that has been contaminated with blood or bodily fluids.
This new program will be extremely convenient for Shores residents because it will save them trips to the Volusia County Health Department for disposal.
