Disposal of Unused Medicine

Disposal of Unused MedicineSeveral bottles of pills in a basket along with other medication

When your medicines are no longer needed, they should be disposed of promptly. Consumers and caregivers should remove expired, unwanted, or unused medicines from their home as quickly as possible to help reduce the chance that others accidentally take or intentionally misuse the unneeded medicine, and to help reduce drugs from entering the environment.

Medication Disposal Box

The Daytona Beach Shores Department of Public Safety provides a medication disposal box located in our lobby.

  • You can dispose of your expired medications 24 hours a day.
  • Drugs must be packaged in their original containers, a plastic bottle or sealed in a plastic bag.
  • No loose medications, hypodermic needles, syringes or sharp objects are accepted. However, the department offers a separate sharps disposal program. Contact Public Safety for more information.
