The Daytona Beach Shores Department of Public Safety’s Patrol Division is uniquely structured, as it contains multi-functioning officers who are sworn police officer, firefighters, and emergency medical technicians or paramedics.
The Patrol Division consists of a Patrol Commander, Sergeants, Motor Officers, and Public Safety Officers. The Patrol Division is currently under the leadership of Captain Michael Fowler and ultimately under the command of the Director of Public Safety, Stephan L. Dembinsky.
The Patrol Division’s Public Safety Officer is the first responder to the scene of all police, fire, and emergency medical calls within the city. The same officer may respond to a crime, motor vehicle accident, medical call, and fire service call all within the same shift. There are 28 full-time sworn officers assigned to this division as well as 13 part-time officers and/or firefighters.
The Public Safety Officer continually participates in training and education classes to keep them up to date on current case law, Florida State Statutes, medical protocols and skills, fire suppression and prevention, as well as numerous other aspects of the three certificates they hold.
The Patrol Division is committed to providing the highest quality of services to the citizens of Daytona Beach Shores by detecting and deterring crimes, preventing fires, and efficiently responding and tending to emergency medical situations. The Public Safety Officer prides themselves in providing a safe and welcoming city; a place for which its citizens can call home and keep the visitors returning year after year.
