Accessibility Design Guidelines
Our website has been designed with the following accessibility guidelines in mind:
- The standard font used throughout the site has been chosen to be easily legible.
- Wherever possible, we use live text instead of graphics to reduce the download time of pages and increase your control.
- Our pages are designed to optimally display when they are viewed at a screen resolution of 1,280 by 800 pixels, but can also be viewed on lower screen resolutions with little to no difficulty.
- No information is exclusively conveyed using color. This doesn't mean that colors are not used to organize information; instead, it means there are also other, non-color dependent ways of doing this.
- All images and hyperlinks, where appropriate, have an alternative text attribute. This means when an image or hyperlink is conveying important information its content is described with an alternative text.
- We have attempted specifically to comply with WCAG 2.0 Level AA, referring to website accessibility standards.
- If you have difficulty accessing the site or have any comments or feedback, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Document Accessibility
This website contains links to PDF documents that require the most current version of Adobe Reader to view. The Adobe Acrobat Reader may already be installed on your computer as a "plug-in" or "helper application" for your web browser. To find out, view on the "PDF" link for the document you are interested in. If the Adobe Acrobat Reader is properly installed on your computer, the reader will either download or automatically open a PDF copy of the document, depending on your browser and how it is configured. If the Adobe Acrobat Reader is not installed on your computer, it can be found, free of charge, at the Adobe Acrobat Reader download page.
If you are using a screen reader, you may find it will not read some documents in PDF format. Adobe provides a website that will convert non-accessible PDF files to a format that is usable with a screen reader. The Adobe Access site tool can be added to your computer as a "plug-in"
Documents will have been tested with their respective software for meeting accessibility guidelines prior to posting:
- Microsoft Office Documents - doc, docx, xls, xlsx, etc - Check Accessibility
- Adobe Acrobat DC - pdf - Accessibility Full Check
The City will strive to post all documents in Adobe PDF to reach the widest possible configurations. However, due to accessibility concerns, documents may be distributed on this website in another format. In those circumstances, the City will recommend a method for viewing the document below:
- Microsoft Office Documents - If Microsoft Office is not available to you, OpenOffice offers a free solution for viewing Microsoft Office documents - Link to the OpenOffice Website
Accessibility Testing
To reach the widest audience, the City will test using and strive to ensure accessible functionality using the following screen reader(s) or methods:
- NVDA
- Microsoft Windows 10 Narrator
- Keyboard-Only Navigation
