Attorney Chris Conomos was the only candidate to qualify to run for City Council Seat 1 in the 2022 municipal election and, therefore, was elected without opposition. He was selected to fill the remainder of Richard Frizalone's term and was sworn in June 28, 2022.
A Shores resident since August 2018, Conomos is a Central Florida native with strong ties to Volusia County for more than 30 years. His childhood of weekends and summers in New Smyrna Beach fostered a love of surf, sand and small towns.
After serving 15 years with the Public Defender's Office (18th Circuit), Christ is now with the State Attorney's Office (7th Circuit). An Army National Guard veteran, Conomos proudly served in Florida's Army National Guard for six years as an infantryman and rifle team leader.
Conomos earned his Juris Doctor degree from the Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan, and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Central Florida. He attended Valencia Community College and UCF for his undergraduate degree in political science and also studied government policies, public safety and infrastructure.
He has served as a school volunteer and role model for JROTC students. He is married to Stacy Pope Conomos and is a father and grandfather.
